Slow computer: how to optimize your PC?

Slow computer: how to optimize your PC?

Your computer is slow? Do files and programs load slowly? Does the computer suddenly freeze? Internet browsing has become too slow and you can no longer work normally on your PC?

Be aware that your pc is not necessarily slow because it contains viruses. Indeed, as you use your computer and over time, if you do not perform maintenance, your computer will inevitably tend to slow down, to take longer to open programs and files, to become less efficient or sometimes to freeze. Here is how to optimize your PC in case of slowness.

Delete temporary files

First, you should know that Windows saves temporary files for many applications. These temporary files are used when applications are opened to perform functions. Once the applications are closed, however, these files become unnecessary and take on more and more weight because they are seldom deleted automatically. As these types of files multiply on your computer, these temporary files contribute to the exhaustion of disk space and therefore to the gradual slowdown of the device.

To clean your computer of all unnecessary files and optimize the performance of your PC, call Techinclic.fr, a technician will come directly to your home or on-site to solve all your PC slowness problems. It is also possible to request remote IT assistance!

To delete the temporary files stored on your computer yourself, just:

Go to the Start tab or use the key combination WIN + R, then type “% tmp%” and then press ENTER.

A Windows Explorer window will then open to the folder containing the temporary files.

Select them all with the CTRL + A key combination and delete them (even from the recycle bin). And there you have it, you will have got rid of all the temporary files that undermine your computer’s performance!

Defragmenting hard drives

There is another way to optimize Windows and speed up your PC. This method consists of defragmenting the disks. The data on hard drives is actually fragmented, so it is difficult for Windows to access it, and the operating system takes longer to access it, creating some slowness.

To optimize the disks, it is sufficient, unless the automatic option is enabled, to go to Start and then look for the option “Defragment and optimize the drives“.

Once the application is open, all you have to do is select the disk to defragment, analyze it and then optimize it

Disable automatic start of applications

Another very effective and easy way to make your PC run faster is to turn off the automatic launch of unwanted applications.

To do this, simply click on the start icon, then look for the option “Task managers”.

On the window that opens, select the “Start” tab, then look for the “turn off unnecessary applications” option. Once you disable unnecessary applications, they will no longer use PC memory and your computer will run faster.

Update Windows

Keeping your computer’s operating system up to date is essential for a faster, more secure PC. It is therefore recommended to quickly update the system whenever Windows requests it, and especially to ensure that the computer is not turned off during Windows updates.

To check if Windows updates are available, just go to Start and type “check for updates”.

Replacing the hardware components of your computer

If your computer is slow, you just need to have some of its components replaced. This is indeed the most efficient way to speed up a computer. Even a laptop, except in special cases, can be updated quite easily. Recommended hardware upgrades are to increase RAM capacity and replace the old, obsolete hard drive with a more modern, faster SSD.

Clean up junk files

Please note that this is not about deleting temporary files as we have previously. Rather, it is about removing unnecessary or duplicate files and documents. To get rid of such files and optimize your PC’s speed and performance, you can use various cleaning software.

To remove these junk files, you can use free pc cleaning software like CCLeaner. This is free downloadable software from the internet

It also allows you to fix various system errors which might be contributing to slowing down your PC.
